This organization was first conceived by a group of approximately 16 2ID Korean War veterans at a reunion of the 2nd Infantry Division held in Las Vegas during 1990. Before the next reunion held in 1991 a formal procedure was taken to incorporate under the laws of California as the 2nd Infantry Division, Korean War Branch, Inc. . At that meeting 1991 officer were elected and the members formally adopted our articles of incorporation and bylaws. The 2nd Infantry Division Association had already issued its branch charter to our corporation, which was in formation. Shortly, we were able to obtain more than a thousand new members for the 2IDA. Early in 1997 the Branch members overwhelmingly voted by approximately 90% for and 10% against to return our branch charter and change our name. Except for minor changes to our articles of incorporation and bylaws that related to the change, we are still that original California non-profit corporation. Our organization has a few dedicated men using computers, unit rosters, casualty rosters and company orders to search for phone numbers or addresses of these potential members. With their help we have grown to over 2,850 combat veterans members and should hit our target of over 3,000 by reunion time. A common bond holds us together that only combat veterans understand. Our officers and directors come from a good mixture of former army officers and enlisted of a wide range of ranks. All are dedicated workers whose main objects are to build this Alliance and to arrange member friendly reunions and other interesting events. We call ourselves an Alliance because we have become the gathering point for all 2nd Infantry Division veterans who saw action in Korea. Some of our members departed from Ft. Lewis, WA only to be hit hard near in Naktong River area the day they landed. Some, like myself, arrived later during the war and fought over hills in the area of what is called today - the DMZ or the Z. Between these times others were in heavy fighting in areas such as Kunu-ri, Chipyong-ni, Twin Tunnels, Hongchong, Bloody Ridge, Heartbreak Ridge and hills such as 1051 and 1179. Some have been POWs. We have member from France and Netherlands. We listen to our member's wishes. As with many organizations, sometimes the request conflict and we try to resolve these. We work to take care of our members in the "2nd-to-None" way.
Unlike some non-profit organizations that are owned by private parties or profit making corporations, we are a member owned organization. Our dues are kept low because all our workers are volunteer.
We have many varied activities described throughout different pages of this site. Please take a few minutes and find out what we do and what we are all about.
The main purpose of our 2nd Infantry Division, Korean War Veterans Alliance is to bring together our old units and its veterans back together. We all fought in the same division, often supporting or replacing one another on line or in reserve. I continuously hear stories about how men meet after almost fifty years. Many times one of them carried the other off a hill. Men like these makes this a well-rounded organization full of members with the same interest. It gives the veterans a chance to discuss the pros and cons of battles, find out what happen old comrades and just swap stories about the winters, summers and all the hills. Many have forgotten names of those served with. We use copies of rosters and our casualty list to refresh their memories. Hearing stories of members finding someone that carried him or her off a hill makes all the work worthwhile.
